What is Damn Virtual Desktops?
Damn Virtual Desktops is an application that brings the workspace switching as seen in desktop environments/window managers on Linux/BSD, to Microsoft Windows. Damn Virtual Desktops will allow the user to configure how many virtual desktops they require, and assign hotkeys for each virtual desktop.
Currently Damn Virtual Desktops is an alpha release and not intended to be used as a full time application. It is set to a fixed limit of four virtual desktops, and the hotkeys are fixed to Windows key plus a number, and Control, Alt, plus a number. Future features will include the following.
- Configurable hot keys for switching virtual desktops.
- Configurable amount of virtual desktops.
- System tray icon for access to the configuration dialog.
- Loadable modules for extra functionality.
- Configurable sticky windows.
- Option to send a window to a virtual desktop.
How is Damn Virtual Desktops Implemented?
Damn Virtual Desktops is implemented in C++ using object-oriented constructs. It is compiled using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.
